Singapore-based venture studio Kasagi Labo has announced a new anime project tentatively titled Casshan 2045. Revealed during a panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the project aims to reimagine the iconic 1973 Tatsunoko Production series, Shinzō Ningen Casshan.

Adding significant artistic weight to the new endeavor, Yoshitaka Amano, known for his work on the Final Fantasy series, is contributing original character design concepts. The original Shinzō Ningen Casshan told the story of Dr. Azuma's son who becomes a cyborg to fight against rebellious robots threatening humanity.

This latest iteration follows a history of adaptations for the franchise. Tatsunoko Production's original anime was followed by the Casshan: Robot Hunter video anime in 1993 and a live-action film in 2004. More recently, the anime series Casshern Sins aired in 2008, which Funimation streamed and released domestically.

In related news, Mad Cave Studios' Nakama Press, in collaboration with Tatsunoko Production, is set to release the first volume of a new Casshan manga on September 15. Written by Mario B. Long with art by Kusanagi, this manga is also based on the original Shinzō Ningen Casshan.
