The upcoming television anime adaptation of Shōzen, based on the Chinese manhua Shang Shan by Jiang Jia Meizi, has debuted its first promotional video. The footage confirms the series is slated for an April 2027 premiere, where it will air as part of the B8station programming block on Fuji TV. In tandem with the announcement, the Japanese version of the manhua began serialization on the RaiComi website.
The series centers on the Taoist priest Dōzen, who takes a young girl raised by supernatural entities under his wing. After naming her Shōzen, he begins the delicate process of teaching his new disciple the complexities of human emotion and love. The production has secured a notable voice cast, featuring Rina Kawaguchi in the title role alongside industry veteran Hiroshi Kamiya as Dōzen. They are joined by Daisuke Sakuma as Ryojin, Aoi Yūki as Kensei, and Ayumu Murase as Chiro.
Behind the scenes, Itsurō Kawasaki—known for his work on True Cooking Master Boy—is taking on a heavy workload, serving as both the director and the sound director at studios Dangan Pictures and Cannon Code. He is also overseeing the series scripts. The production team includes character designer Eri Osada (The World's Finest Assassin) and composer Takurō Iga, whose credits include the acclaimed Oshi no Ko.
