The surreal narrative of Fujōri Zakkaten Unreal (Absurd Variety Shop Unreal) is coming to a close. The official social media channels for Shinshokan’s Wings magazine confirmed that the series will publish its final chapter in the upcoming October issue, hitting stands this Friday. To round out the project, the publisher has slated the fifth and final compiled book volume for a late November release.
Created by Shuu Katayama, the series follows the enigmatic proprietor Yagio and his peculiar shop, which deals exclusively in human thoughts. The shop’s strange inventory frequently alters the lives of its customers, all observed by Yagio with a detached, cold demeanor. Providing a human anchor to the story is Muneya Hamaie, a local high school student working at a nearby cafe who takes it upon himself to look after the shopkeeper.
Since its debut in Wings in June 2022, the series has expanded beyond the page. Its unique premise proved popular enough to warrant a live-action television adaptation in 2025, broadcast across TV Osaka, TV Aichi, and BS TV Tokyo, followed by a stage play that premiered earlier this year. This conclusion marks the end of a three-year run for Katayama, a veteran creator whose previous works, such as Gakuen Benriya and Dragon Heart, have also received anime adaptations in the past.
