Shueisha Games and developer iMel are bringing the mystery of the library committee to life with a newly announced video game adaptation of Honobu Yonezawa's Seasons of Books and Keys. The title, which describes itself as a "drama-like adventure" designed to blend reading and cinematic storytelling, is slated for a winter 2026 release on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
The game puts players in the shoes of Jiro Horikawa, a high school library committee member who, alongside his partner Shimon Matsukura, investigates a string of school-based enigmas—ranging from locked safes to stolen exam papers. The narrative promises to peel back layers of secrets hidden within the daily lives of the students. Kazuki Ura will provide the voice for Jiro, while Yūichirō Umehara voices Shimon. The game will feature support for Japanese, English, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese subtitles.
To ensure the adaptation remains faithful to the source material, original illustrator Yōko Tanji has returned to handle character designs. Furthermore, Yonezawa has penned an exclusive new episode titled "Used Kitan" specifically for the game. An announcement trailer released alongside the news highlights the game's atmospheric tone and the interpersonal dynamics between the two leads.
This project serves as an expansion for the Library Committee Series, which already boasts over 400,000 copies in print. Honobu Yonezawa remains a powerhouse in the mystery genre, widely recognized for his Kotenbu series—famously adapted as the anime Hyōka by Kyoto Animation—and the Shōshimin series, which recently saw a two-season anime run. With this interactive venture, Shueisha Games aims to capitalize on Yonezawa's knack for grounded, character-driven puzzles.
