During the latest Nintendo Direct, Shueisha Games and developer LASTWONDER unveiled Hoshin Engi Re:surrection, a new roguelite title set in the world of Ryū Fujisaki’s iconic fantasy manga. The game is slated for a 2027 release across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Steam, with language support confirmed for English, Japanese, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

Set after the conclusion of the original manga, the game introduces two new characters, Toshin and Chuechue, both designed by Fujisaki. Players will step into the role of Toshin, utilizing mythic weapons known as Paope to navigate dungeons and recruit allies. The narrative builds upon the foundation of the original series, which reimagines the ancient Chinese novel Fengshen Yanyi as a high-stakes battle against corrupt sorcery and malevolent spirits.

This announcement marks a return to the franchise for the gaming space, following the 2019 smartphone title Hakyū Hōshin Engi: Senkai Chronicle. The original manga, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1996 to 2000, previously inspired two separate anime adaptations: the 1999 series Soul Hunter and the 2018 reboot Hakyū Hōshin Engi. With the series having spanned decades of manga, anime, and stage musicals, this roguelite represents a shift toward a more modern, gameplay-focused exploration of the property.
