Manga artist Shiro Yoshida has officially debuted his latest series, Kemonogari (Hunting Animals), on DeNA's Manga Box platform. The new title leans into the tension of a "panic-in-closed-village" horror narrative, set within the insular community of Habaki, a town governed by a tradition that grants absolute power to its leadership.
The story follows Akira Sasaki, the younger son of the village's ruling family. As his older brother, Hikaru, prepares to undergo the ritual to become the next village chief, Akira plans to use the occasion to convince his childhood friend, Kotori Karino, to escape the village with him. However, the ceremony is thrown into chaos when an unknown creature emerges just as Hikaru dons the mask of authority, coinciding with the mysterious disappearance of two men in the neighboring mountains.
Yoshida is well-known for his diverse portfolio, which includes the adaptation of the Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress anime and the gambling-themed Casino Gui. He previously collaborated with Alice in Borderland creator Haro Aso on the series Noyu Girl. With the launch of Kemonogari, Yoshida returns to the psychological and supernatural themes that have defined his recent work.
