Shiori Teshirogi, best known for her expansive work on the Saint Seiya franchise, is reuniting with her brother, novelist Shōtarō Teshirogi, for a new manga project. The pair will debut a four-chapter miniseries titled Fushigiri Muichi (Muichi the Slayer of Immortals) in the September 4 issue of Akita Shoten’s Mystery Bonita magazine.
The story is set during the early Meiji Period and centers on Tamahashi Muichi, a former secret lawman for the Shogunate who has abandoned his blade for a painter’s brush. His quiet life is disrupted by reports concerning the activities of Sakamoto Ryōma, a historical agitator who is officially recorded as dead. The siblings previously introduced this premise in a two-chapter story published in Weekly Shōnen Champion in 2021.
Teshirogi gained international recognition for Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa, which ran from 2006 to 2011 and was adapted into a 26-episode OVA series. Her portfolio also includes a notable stint in the DC Comics universe with the Batman and the Justice League manga, which concluded in 2019.
Shōtarō Teshirogi brings his own experience in collaborative storytelling to the project, having previously authored the Kou-Tetsujo Iron Castle novel. That project featured character designs by Yasuo Ohtagaki, the creator behind the acclaimed Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt.
