Shinobi Undercover (Shinobigoto) is making the jump from manga to prose with a newly announced novel, Shinobigoto A Day in the Life Birds. The project, penned by Kiyoko Hoshi, is scheduled to hit shelves on September 4, coinciding with the release of the manga's ninth compiled volume.
Created by Ippon Takegushi and Santa Mitarashi, the series debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2024. The story follows Yodaka, a highly skilled Public Safety ninja who finds himself completely out of his element when his mission requires him to go undercover as a high school student to protect a classmate named Aoi Mukai. While he can easily handle rogue assassins, navigating the social complexities of teenage life proves to be his most difficult assignment yet.
Viz Media currently holds the English-language rights to the manga, which has gained traction for its blend of high-stakes action and awkward school-life comedy. With eight volumes already published in Japan, the series continues to build its footprint within the Shueisha catalog as it expands into this new literary format.
