The long-running culinary saga Oishinbo is returning to the screen with a new television anime series, Shin Oishinbo, currently slated for a 2027 premiere. The project's official website launched this week, unveiling a teaser visual and confirming the core production team and voice cast tasked with bringing the iconic food-focused rivalry back to life.

The new production features Yōhei Azakami as the protagonist Shirō Yamaoka, with Hitomi Sasaki voicing Yūko Kurita and veteran actor Akio Ōtsuka stepping into the role of the formidable Yūzan Kaibara. Behind the scenes, Ken'ichi Nishida is directing the series, with scripts handled by Takahiro Nagano and character designs by Nozomi Kawashige. The animation is a collaborative effort between Synergy SP, Vega Entertainment, and Shinei Animation.

This project revives a franchise that originally debuted as a manga in 1983 and has been on hiatus since 2014. While the original 136-episode anime adaptation aired between 1988 and 1992, this new iteration revisits the intense "Ultimate Menu" versus "Supreme Menu" showdowns that defined the series for decades.

Why it matters: The involvement of Shinei Animation provides a direct link to the 1988 series, suggesting a focus on maintaining the franchise's legacy. Whether this new series will adapt unreleased chapters or revisit classic arcs remains to be seen, as the production team has yet to confirm the total episode count or the specific narrative scope.
