The upcoming television anime adaptation Shin Oishinbo has officially pulled back the curtain on its creative team and voice cast. Leading the project as director is Kenichi Nishida, known for his work on Naruto: Shippuuden, with series composition handled by Takahiro Nagano. The character designs are being managed by Nozomi Kawashige, while the animation production is a collaborative effort between SynergySP and Vega Entertainment, under the production umbrella of Shin-Ei Animation.
The series has also confirmed its primary voice cast: Youhei Azakami will voice Shirou Yamaoka, Hitomi Sasaki is set to play Yuuko Kurita, and Akio Ootsuka will portray Yuuzan Kaibara. A teaser visual accompanied the announcement, setting the tone for the 2027 premiere window.
This new project follows the legacy of the original Oishinbo manga, which began serialization in 1983 and remains a landmark title in culinary-themed storytelling. While the original manga has been on hiatus since 2014, its influence persists through its extensive 111-volume run. The franchise previously saw a 136-episode television adaptation produced by Shin-Ei Animation between 1988 and 1992.
Why it matters: The involvement of Shin-Ei Animation, which produced the original 1988 series, suggests a desire to maintain continuity with the franchise's roots, though it remains to be seen how the new production will adapt the long-running source material for a modern audience.
