The long-running police comedy Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo is officially returning to television. A special livestream event confirmed that a new series, titled Shin Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo, is currently in production for a 2027 debut on Fuji TV. The announcement included a new key visual and a character-focused promotional video to mark the franchise's 50th anniversary.
Studio Gallop, which handled the original 373-episode run from 1996 to 2004, returns to lead the production. The project features a veteran staff including director Akitarou Daichi, character designer Kenichi Hara, and composer Toshihiko Sahashi. The main cast features Fukushi Ochiai as the irrepressible Kankichi Ryotsu, alongside Shouta Aoi as Keiichi Nakagawa, MใปAใปO as Reiko Akimoto, and Raikou Sakamoto as Daijiro Ohara.
This new series follows a storied history for the franchise, which originally serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump for four decades before concluding in 2016. While the original series remains a staple of classic comedy anime, the 2027 project serves as a major milestone for the property. With the production team now confirmed, the primary question remains whether this new iteration will maintain the episodic structure of the original run or adopt a more serialized narrative approach for modern audiences.
