Because I, the True Saint, was Banished, that Country is Done For! is officially moving from the page to the screen. The production committee opened a dedicated website this Thursday to announce that the television anime adaptation of Shikiso Utsuzawa’s popular light novel series is slated for a 2027 debut. Alongside the announcement, fans received a teaser visual and confirmation of the primary production team.
Tsukasa Sakurai, known for his work on The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. and Little Witch Academia, will step into the director's chair at Tsumugi Akita Anime Lab. The series scripts are being helmed by Naoki Tozuka, with character designs provided by Naru Nishikōri. The studio has tapped Masumi Tazawa to voice the protagonist, Eliane, while Taku Yashiro will provide the voice for Nigel.
The story follows Eliane, a saint who has served as the protector of the Kingdom of Belkheim since childhood. Her life takes a sharp turn when a false saint convinces her fiancé—the prince—that she is a fraud, leading to her sudden banishment. Now stripped of her status, Eliane attempts to start over as a commoner in a neighboring kingdom, only to find her hopes for a quiet life challenged by an unexpected encounter.
Originally launched on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2020, the series has since expanded into a successful light novel run published by Kodansha, featuring illustrations by Pukyunosuke. The narrative also boasts a manga adaptation by Mokuba Matsu, which began serialization in 2021 via the Palcy app. Kodansha USA currently manages the English digital and physical releases of the manga, bringing Eliane's journey of self-discovery to an international audience.
