Readers of Shūichi Shigeno’s latest racing title, Subaru and Subaru, will have to wait a few weeks for the next chapter. According to the 43rd issue of Weekly Young Magazine, the series is currently on a scheduled break and is slated to return in the magazine's 48th issue, which hits shelves on October 26.

Launched in July 2025, the manga serves as a direct expansion of Shigeno’s long-running automotive legacy, bridging the worlds established in Initial D and MF Ghost. The story centers on two new drivers, Subaru Sato and Subaru Kudo, as they attempt to make their mark on the high-stakes MFG street racing circuit one year after the events of the previous series.

While the manga is currently on hiatus in Japan, international fans have a localized release to look forward to. Kodansha USA Publishing has confirmed that the first compiled volume is set for an English-language debut on April 6, 2027. This release continues the publisher's commitment to Shigeno’s work, following their ongoing efforts to bring the complete MF Ghost series to Western readers.

Given the series' deep ties to the Initial D franchise—which has spawned decades of anime, film, and gaming adaptations—the success of this new title remains a key point of interest for fans of the creator's high-octane storytelling. With the MF Ghost anime currently moving through its multi-season run, how do you think the tone of this new manga compares to the original Initial D era?
