Shangri-La Frontier is officially heading back to the screen, with the production committee confirming a January 10 premiere for the series' third season. The announcement arrived alongside a new key visual featuring the ominous tagline "Konton ga Hazeru" (Chaos erupts). The upcoming installment is slated for a two-cour run, ensuring a continuous six-month broadcast across MBS, TBS, and their affiliated network channels.
Studio C2C is returning to helm the production, with Toshiyuki Kubooka serving as chief director. The core creative team remains largely intact, including series composition writer Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, character designer and chief animation director Ayumi Kurashima, and the musical team at MONACA. Crunchyroll has confirmed it will continue to stream the series internationally as it airs in Japan.
This third season follows a consistent release pattern for the franchise, which has maintained a steady presence since its debut. The first season launched in October 2023, followed immediately by the second season in October 2024, both of which also spanned two consecutive cours. While the anime continues its adaptation of the web novel by Katarina and the manga by Ryōsuke Fuji, the franchise is also expanding into interactive media with the upcoming game Shangri-La Frontier The Seven Colossi from developer Netmarble Nexus.
With the production staff remaining stable across all three seasons, the continuity of the show's visual identity and pacing seems secure. It remains to be seen how the narrative will balance the high-stakes "shitty game" hunting of protagonist Rakurō Hizutome as the scope of the virtual world continues to expand.
