CTW Inc. is expanding the Shakugan no Shana franchise with the release of Shakugan no Shana: Blaze Edge, a browser-based game arriving on September 14. The title will be free-to-play with in-app purchases and aims for a broad reach by offering support for Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Korean at launch.

The game draws directly from the world created by Yashichiro Takahashi, whose original light novel series concluded its main run in 2011. Fans of the anime adaptation will recognize the voice of the series' protagonist, Shana, as Rie Kugimiya returns to the role. The franchise has seen sporadic activity in recent years, most notably with the 2023 release of the Shakugan no Shana SIV short story collection, which served as the first new installment in over a decade.

While the original anime series concluded its run in 2011, the franchise maintains a dedicated following. AniList users currently rate the original 2005 series at 77/100, reflecting its status as a cornerstone of mid-2000s fantasy anime. With this browser release, the series moves into the accessibility-focused G123 platform model.

Given the significant gap between the final anime season and this new game, it remains to be seen if this release will drive renewed engagement with the source material or if it is intended primarily for the existing fanbase.
