Seven Seas Entertainment has announced the acquisition of the legendary Ultraman manga by horror icon Kazuo Umezz. The publisher plans to release the work as a large-trim hardcover collection, titled Ultraman by Kazuo Umezz: The Classic Manga Collection, arriving in July 2027.
Originally serialized between 1966 and 1967, Umezzβs interpretation of the iconic hero debuted alongside the premiere of the original tokusatsu television series. The collection will feature the author's unique take on the franchise, including iconic kaiju battles and rare segments from the manga's initial run. This release serves as a centerpiece for the 60th-anniversary celebrations of the long-running sci-fi property created by Eiji Tsuburaya.
Kazuo Umezz, widely recognized for his influential horror titles like The Drifting Classroom and Reptilia, brings a distinct visual style to the source material that has remained a cult classic for decades. The announcement follows the recent July 3 premiere of The Origin of Ultraman, a documentary film produced by Tsuburaya Productions that highlights the historical impact of the franchise since its 1963 inception.
