Sekiro: No Defeat, the upcoming feature-length adaptation of FromSoftware’s hit action title Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, has released a new promotional clip. The footage showcases the high-stakes duel between the protagonist, Wolf, and his rival Genichiro Ashina, emphasizing the fluid, visceral combat style the game is known for. The film is set to begin a three-week theatrical engagement in Japan on September 4.

Behind the scenes, the production features a notable team including director Kenichi Kutsuna and character designer Takahiro Kishida, known for his work on Durarara!!. The project also brings back the original Japanese voice cast, with Daisuke Namikawa returning as Wolf and Kenjirō Tsuda as Genichiro. In a move that drew significant attention during its production phase, the staff explicitly confirmed in August 2025 that no AI tools were utilized in the creation of the film.

While the film had its debut screening out of competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, international audiences will have to wait until 2026 for its digital release. Crunchyroll has secured exclusive streaming rights for the title, covering most territories outside of Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus.

Given the game’s reputation for challenging, rhythmic combat, how well do you think the animation team has captured the feel of the original boss encounters?
