To mark the 20th anniversary of the franchise, creator Yuu Minamoto has returned to the world of Samurai Harem: Asu no Yoichi with a brand-new one-shot manga. Titled "Asu no Yoichi! 2026 Egao no Riyū," the special chapter was featured in the ninth issue of Akita Shoten's Young Champion Retsu magazine, which hit shelves this Tuesday.
The original series, which began its run in Monthly Shōnen Champion in 2006, followed the fish-out-of-water adventures of Yoichi, a young mountain-trained swordsman sent to refine his skills at the urban Ikaruga family dojo. The clash between his traditional upbringing and the vibrant personalities of the four Ikaruga sisters defined the series, eventually leading to a 15-volume run and a television anime adaptation in 2009, which was licensed in North America by Sentai Filmworks.
Minamoto has remained a prolific presence in the industry since the conclusion of the series in 2011. Following projects like Haru Polish and the completed Haken no Ninja Akabane, she has recently focused on her ongoing title Watashi-tachi wa Kakechigatteiru, which launched on the Champion Cross platform in late 2024. This latest one-shot serves as a nostalgic look back at the work that solidified her career in the mid-2000s.
