The production team for the Red River (Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori) anime has announced two new additions to its voice cast. Sōma Saitō has been tapped to voice User Ramses, a free-spirited Egyptian general and primary rival to the protagonist Kail, while Shun Horie will portray Juda Haspasrupi, a Hittite prince caught in the political tensions surrounding the throne.

These actors join an ensemble cast that includes Mirai Tachibana as Yuri and Wataru Katō as Kail Muršili. The anime, which is currently in the midst of its broadcast run, premiered in Japan on July 7 as part of NTV’s "AnichU" programming block. International viewers can follow the series through Crunchyroll, which is simulcasting the adaptation.

Produced by Tatsunoko Production under the direction of Kōsuke Kobayashi, the series adapts Chie Shinohara’s classic shōjo manga, which originally ran from 1995 to 2002. The production maintains a focus on historical authenticity, utilizing researchers from the Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology to guide the depiction of the Hittite Empire. With scripts overseen by Yoriko Tomita and character designs by Kenji Fujisaki, the project aims to bring the epic scale of the original 28-volume manga to a new generation.
