The television anime adaptation of Chie Shinohara's shōjo manga Red River has added Minami Takayama and Kazuhiko Inoue to its cast. Takayama will voice Yuri's mother, while Inoue will voice her father. Both actors are reprising their roles from a previous drama CD adaptation of the series, where Takayama voiced protagonist Yuri and Inoue voiced co-lead Kail.
The series, which premiered on July 7 in NTV's "AnichU" block and on July 8 on BS NTV, is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The story follows Yuri, a Japanese high school student who is mysteriously transported to the ancient Hittite Empire, where she becomes entangled in political intrigue and war.
Directed by Kōsuke Kobayashi at Tatsunoko Production, the anime features a full voice cast including Mirai Tachibana as Yuri and Wataru Katō as Kail Muršili. Yoriko Tomita is handling series scripts, with character designs by Kenji Fujisaki. Yoshihisa Hirano is composing the music.
Red River originally ran from 1995 to 2002 in Shogakukan's Shōjo Comic magazine. Viz Media published the manga in English between 2004 and 2010, and began releasing new 3-in-1 omnibus editions in October 2024.
