The upcoming film Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend is giving fans an extra incentive to head to theaters during its opening week. Attendees will receive a special bonus text story titled Rascal Does Dream of a Tea Garden, penned by original light novel author Hajime Kamoshida and featuring illustrations by Keeji Mizoguchi. The short story centers on a post-shopping trip outing involving Sakuta, Mai, and Shoko.

This latest entry in the long-running franchise is set to hit Japanese theaters on October 16. The production sees the return of key staff from previous installments, including director Sōichi Masui, screenwriter Masahiro Yokotani, and character designer Satomi Tamura, all working under studio CloverWorks. The film is widely anticipated as the conclusion to the narrative, sharing its title with the 15th and final volume of the original novel series.

The franchise has maintained a steady presence since the 2018 premiere of the original television anime, which adapted the first five volumes. Following the success of the Dreaming Girl film and the subsequent Sister Venturing Out and Knapsack Kid features, the series expanded into the "University Student Arc" with a television series that aired in July 2025. With the Dear Friend film now positioned as the series finale, it serves as a significant milestone for a franchise that has seen over 3 million copies of its light novels in circulation.
