Arc System Works has released a new gameplay trailer for Qliphah in Providence's Shadow, offering a closer look at the title's core combat systems. The footage demonstrates the game's unique "tactical counter-timeline" mechanics, which task players with stacking and overlapping skills within a limited window to maximize damage and execute precise counterattacks against enemies.
Set in a version of Tokyo suffering from a reality-eroding "World Collapse," the story follows Soma Hoshigami—a courier turned "Half-turned" hybrid—and Rena Hizuki, an investigator from the Public Safety Anomaly Response Division. Together, they must navigate a city overrun by entities known as Anomalies while investigating the spread of mysterious "Stigmas" and a dangerous drug called "Tiny True."
Digital pre-orders are now live across all platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Early purchasers will receive a bonus bundle featuring three character skins for the protagonists and access to "Voidfall," a collection of 16 high-difficulty combat encounters that offer unique rewards.
Why it matters: The inclusion of a "tactical counter-timeline" system suggests a departure from the studio's traditional fighting game roots, though the emphasis on "stylish fashion" and "flair" in combat remains a hallmark of the developer's signature aesthetic. It remains to be seen how the dual-protagonist system impacts the narrative branching or character-specific skill trees.
