Edia has officially unveiled Psikyo Memories, a new compilation project dedicated to preserving the legacy of the studio's iconic 1990s arcade scrolling shooters. Revealed during the Tokyo Game Show 2026, the collection is currently in development for a 2027 release on both the PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Beyond the core gameplay, the collection aims to serve as a historical archive for the genre, featuring a dedicated gallery of materials sourced from the original development period. Confirmed titles for the release include the foundational shooter Strikers 1945 and the character-driven classic Gunbird, though the full list of included games has yet to be finalized.
This announcement follows a long history of Psikyo re-releases, including the Psikyo Shooting Stars collections that arrived on the Nintendo Switch in 2020 and the PlayStation 4 in 2022. While a separate Psikyo Shooting Collection was teased for the PlayStation 5 back in 2020, it never materialized, leaving this new project as the first major effort to bring these titles to the current generation of hardware.
Why it matters: The inclusion of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the platform list suggests a strategic focus on next-generation hardware for retro preservation. With the previous 2020 PS5 collection having been cancelled, it remains to be seen if this new release will eventually incorporate the full library of titles originally planned for that earlier, unreleased project.
