A new trailer released during the LEVEL5 VISION 2026 Craftsmanship stream has confirmed that Professor Layton and The New World of Steam will launch worldwide in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. The trailer also showcased new cast members and a theme song composed by Joe Hisaishi with vocals by Lilas.

Mouse support will be available for all versions except the Nintendo Switch. The game's narrative will pick up after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, with the setting shifting to Steam Bison, America. Yō Ōizumi reprises his role as Professor Layton, while Mio Imada takes over as the voice of Luke Triton.

Additional cast members announced include Riho Yoshioka as Elinora and Elida, Mahiro Takasugi as Eggmuffin, Shin'ya Kote as Allinston, Kōichi Yamadera as Sheriff Bobsley, Akio Ōtsuka as Falcon, and Michaela Wako Sato as Mystella. The puzzle design for the game is being handled by Quiz Knock, a group specializing in media puzzles.

The previous entry in the series, Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire's Journey, was released in 2017 and later inspired the Layton Mystery Tanteisha: Katori no Nazotoki File television anime.
