The heartwarming anime short Pokémon: Dragonite and the Special Delivery is now accessible to English-speaking audiences with a newly released English dub. The short, which originally premiered in Japan on February 27, 2025, for Pokémon Day, follows a young girl named Hana who admires a Dragonite working as a postal carrier.
When Hana discovers a letter addressed to an unknown recipient, she embarks on a journey through town with her Fuecoco to find the sender. She learns the letter is from a boy named Rio, intended for his father working abroad in the Kanto region, whose birthday is fast approaching.
This charming production was handled by CoMix Wave Films, the studio behind Makoto Shinkai's acclaimed films. Riko Fukumoto lends her voice to Hana. The anime's score and theme song, "Kami Hikōki" (Paper Airplane), were composed by Evan Call, with vocals provided by suis, the singer for the band yorushika.
Directed and storyboarding by Taku Kimura, the script was written and supervised by Kentarō Nana. Character designs were done by Asuka Dokai, with Maho Aoki handling animation character design and serving as animation director. Tasuku Watanabe was the art director for the short.
