Saki Hiwatari’s seminal 1980s manga Please Save My Earth is making the jump to live-action. Amazon Prime Video has announced an exclusive series adaptation slated for a fall 2027 debut, with actress Alice Hirose tapped to star as the pivotal character Mokuren. Hirose, known for her work in the Silver Spoon and Hyouka live-action adaptations, will lead a project that aims to capture the complex, reincarnated-soul narrative that defined the original series.
The production team is anchored by director Takahiro Miki, whose portfolio includes the live-action Blue Spring Ride and Solanin. The screenplay is being penned by Nana Yamamoto, with the musical score provided by Moshimoss. Amazon MGM Studios is presenting the series, which is currently in development under the joint planning and production efforts of The Seven and Kadokawa Daiei Studio.
Originally serialized in Hana to Yume magazine between 1986 and 1994, the story follows a group of high school students who discover they are the reincarnations of scientists from a moon base. The property previously received a six-episode OVA adaptation from Production I.G in the early 90s. The franchise has seen significant longevity, with Hiwatari expanding the universe through sequel manga series, including Embraced by the Moonlight and the ongoing Boku wa Chikyū to Utau.
For those unfamiliar with the source material, Viz Media’s English release introduced readers to the life of Alice, a high schooler whose move to the city is complicated by strange occurrences and a connection to a tragic past. As the franchise spans decades of manga history, this live-action project represents a major effort to introduce Hiwatari’s cult-classic sci-fi drama to a new generation of viewers.
