During the recent Persona 4 Revival TV livestream, Atlus revealed that voice actor Ryōtarō Okiayu will step into the role of Ryōtarō Dōjima for the upcoming remake of the 2008 classic. Okiayu takes over the character from the late Unshō Ishizuka, who voiced the detective until his passing in 2018. The broadcast also showcased a new gameplay mechanic dubbed the "location episode," designed to expand on the original narrative experience.
Technical production for the remake is receiving a significant overhaul, with animation studio MAPPA confirmed to be handling all in-game animated cutscenes. Atlus also noted that the project will feature an entirely new English voice cast. The game is slated for a staggered release, arriving on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Xbox Game Pass on February 18, with a follow-up launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 scheduled for May 20.
This project follows the successful release of Persona 3 Reload, which brought the earlier entry to modern hardware in early 2024. While the original Persona 4 remains a cornerstone of the franchise—having spawned numerous spin-offs like Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4: Dancing All Night—this remake marks the first time the core title has received a full-scale modern reconstruction. With the English cast being entirely recast, it remains to be seen how the new performances will reshape the tone of the game's iconic social links.
