Netflix is expanding its exploration of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s iconic horror franchise with a newly announced live-action series, Parasyte: Tamiya. Set for a global 2027 release, the project shifts the focus to Ryoko Tamiya, the calculated and intellectually curious parasite who originally served as a pivotal antagonist in the source manga.
Shioli Kutsuna, known for her roles in Deadpool and Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, has been cast as Tamiya. The series narrative explores her journey from a cold-blooded predator to a being who begins to question the possibility of coexistence between humans and parasites. By centering the story on her perspective, the production aims to examine themes of identity and survival through the eyes of a creature attempting to understand the human condition.
The project reunites key creative talent from the 2024 South Korean adaptation, Parasyte: The Grey. Director Yeon Sang-ho returns as the project planner and co-writer alongside Ryu Yong-jae. The directorial duties are shared by Kensaku Kakimoto and Kazuhiro Nakagawa, with production handled by WOWPOINT.
This new entry joins a long legacy of adaptations for the 1990s manga, which has previously inspired a 2014 television anime and a pair of Japanese live-action films. While Parasyte: The Grey took the story to South Korea, Parasyte: Tamiya promises a fresh, character-driven look at the original series' most enigmatic antagonist.
