Capcom surprised fans during the gamescom Opening Night Live pre-show by revealing a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, highlighting the title's signature high-speed swordplay. The publisher also confirmed a shift in the release schedule, moving the launch date forward to September 4. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch.
Players eager to test the mechanics before the full release can jump into the action immediately, as a playable demo is now available across all platforms. This shift in scheduling brings the title to market several weeks earlier than the previously announced September 25 window.
This release continues Capcom's recent efforts to revitalize the Onimusha franchise, following the 2025 remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny and the 2019 re-release of Onimusha: Warlords. Since its debut in 2001, the series has blended historical Sengoku-era settings with supernatural horror, expanding beyond games into various media, including the 2023 Netflix anime directed by Takashi Miike and Shin'ya Sugai.
