The Nintendo Switch 2 has solidified its market presence, reaching 23.68 million units sold globally as of June 30, 2027. According to Nintendo’s latest financial report for the first quarter of the fiscal year, the console added 3.82 million units to its total since April. Software performance remains robust, with total sales for the platform hitting 58.17 million units, driven largely by the launch title Mario Kart World, which has moved 15.39 million copies, including hardware bundles.
Other notable software performers on the new hardware include Donkey Kong Bananza at 4.78 million units and the Switch 2 edition of Pokémon Legends Z-A with 3.99 million. The transition to digital distribution continues to accelerate, with digital titles representing 61.5% of software sales for the fiscal year thus far. Despite the focus on the new system, the original Nintendo Switch family maintains a massive install base, reaching 156.59 million lifetime units sold.
While the Switch 2 saw a record-breaking launch in June 2025, Nintendo is adjusting its strategy to account for shifting economic conditions. The company previously implemented a price hike for the console in Japan this past May and plans to extend these adjustments to the United States, Canada, and Europe starting September 1.
Meanwhile, the original Switch continues to see long-tail success. Titles such as Tomodachi Life have reached 7.94 million units, while the platform's all-time bestseller, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, remains a juggernaut with 71.53 million copies sold. With the original console now sitting as the second best-selling system in history, Nintendo is effectively managing the transition of its massive user base to the current generation.
