During Wednesday's Nintendo Direct, the company confirmed that Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is headed to the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer showcasing the return of the iconic Wuhu Island, a setting familiar to fans of the franchise from its appearances in titles like Wii Fit and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The title expands the scope of motion-controlled gaming with 12 playable sports, ranging from classics like Table Tennis and Bowling to new additions such as Skateboarding and Thumb Wrestling. Beyond the core athletic events, the trailer highlighted a new Island Crown mode and the ability for players to traverse the island environment freely. Users will have the option to play as either the newer Sportsmates avatars or the classic Mii characters.
This release serves as a direct follow-up to the original Wii Sports Resort, which famously utilized the Wii MotionPlus accessory to refine motion sensitivity. It also builds upon the foundation laid by Nintendo Switch Sports, which debuted in 2022 and eventually grew its roster to eight sports through post-launch updates. Given the franchise's history of hardware-specific motion control integration, which sport are you most looking forward to testing with the new console's hardware?
