During Wednesday's Nintendo Direct, the company pulled back the curtain on Kirby and the World Beyond, an upcoming 3D platformer for the successor to the Nintendo Switch. The announcement trailer highlights a sprawling 3D environment, teasing a mysterious secondary world accessible only through a hidden barrier, suggesting a core mechanic centered on shifting between realities.

This title follows a string of recent franchise activity on the new hardware. Nintendo previously released a Switch 2 edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, titled Star-Crossed World, in August 2025. Additionally, the series saw a spin-off expansion in November 2025 with the launch of the Kirby Air Riders sequel, overseen by series creator Masahiro Sakurai.

While the 2027 release date provides a clear target for the next major Kirby adventure, the studio has yet to confirm if this entry will adopt the same cooperative mechanics seen in previous 3D installments. Given the series' recent shift toward more expansive 3D environments, how do you think the "world beyond" mechanic will change the traditional platforming loop?
