Author Niichi confirmed that their romantic comedy series Sometimes Even Reality Is a Lie! (Genjitsu mo Tamani wa Usowotsuku) is set to receive a television anime adaptation in 2027. The creator shared a celebratory illustration on their social media channels to mark the announcement, signaling the next step for the franchise as the original manga approaches its conclusion.

The series follows the awkward and humorous predicament of Kaoru Terasaki, an avid MMORPG player who arranges an in-person meeting with a long-time gaming companion. Expecting his friend to be a male player, Kaoru is shocked to discover his partner is actually a girl named Nanami Osaka. To complicate matters further, Nanami has misled her overprotective father by claiming she is hosting a female friend, forcing Kaoru to maintain his disguise by cross-dressing throughout their time together.

Originally launched by Niichi as a dōjinshi in 2018, the story gained traction through serialized installments on X (formerly Twitter). Kadokawa later picked up the title for physical publication in 2020. With the ninth and final volume of the manga slated for release on September 16, the upcoming anime will serve as the definitive conclusion to the narrative arc. English-language readers can find the series through J-Novel Club.
