Arc System Works has set June 4 as the release date for its action game River City Saga: Journey to the West in North America and Europe. The title, which is also launching in Japan on the same day, will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
This new entry in the long-running Kunio-kun franchise reimagines the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West with characters from the series. Players will step into the roles of Kunio as Sun Wukong, Zhu Baije, and Sha Wuijing. The game introduces roguelite elements, featuring randomized paths, challenging boss battles, and skill enhancement systems.
The Kunio-kun series first debuted in May 1986, with many installments later localized in the West under different titles like River City Ransom and Renegade. Arc System Works gained control of several Technos Japan properties, including the Kunio-kun games, in June 2015, paving the way for new titles like this.
