The Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise's 20th anniversary anime, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance, has unveiled its second promotional video, an updated main visual, and a new voice cast member. Sumire Uesaka has been cast as Mana Shinomiya, described as a demon (majin) working from the shadows to gain power. The promotional video also gives a preview of the opening theme song "CRIMSON BULLET" performed by Nana Mizuki, who reprises her role as Fate T. Harlaown.
The story is set 30 years after an alien invasion nearly destroyed the world. While humanity has achieved a fragile peace, the "United Nations Investigation Agency EXCEEDS" battles against remaining alien threats and disasters. The narrative also follows Shiina Kuze, a hunter on the isolated island of Mizuho, tasked with eradicating alien species alongside her sister Setsuna.
Returning to direct is Takayuki Hamana, who previously worked on the films Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation. Franchise co-creator Masaki Tsuzuki is credited with the original story and script. The anime features a large voice cast including Azusa Tachibana as Shiina Kuze, Rina Hidaka as Setsuna Kuze, Yukari Tamura as Nanoha Takamachi, Nana Mizuki as Fate T. Harlaown, and Kana Ueda as Hayate Yagami, among others. Hina Aoki will perform the ending theme "Ephemeral."
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance is set to premiere on July 4th on Tokyo MX and BS11, with a special hour-long broadcast. This new anime is part of a larger 20th-anniversary celebration that includes the recently launched manga Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS and a television edit of the franchise's first two anime films.
