The upcoming television anime adaptation of Magic Knight Rayearth has officially locked in its premiere date. The series is set to begin its run on October 7 at 11:45 p.m. as part of TV Asahi’s "IMAnimation W" programming block. This announcement arrived alongside a second promotional video, which offers a first listen to the show's new theme songs.
Alongside the premiere details, the production team revealed four key additions to the voice cast. Mamiko Noto will voice Alcyone, while Ayumu Murase joins as Ascot. Rounding out the new reveals are Hitomi Ueda as Caldina and Hiroki Yasumoto as Lafarga. The music production is equally notable, with the opening theme "Otome no Tsurugi" performed by Toaka and the ending theme "Hoshiakari" performed by Yurina Kawaguchi.
The production is being helmed by director Yui Umemoto at E&H Production, with Shigeru Murakoshi overseeing series composition. The musical score is a collaborative effort between Yuki Kajiura, Takumi Ozawa, and Shiho Terada. With the original manga by CLAMP having seen multiple English-language releases over the decades—most recently via Kodansha USA's 2019 hardcover editions—this new adaptation aims to reintroduce the iconic fantasy series to a modern audience.
Why it matters: The involvement of industry veterans like Yuki Kajiura in the music department suggests a high-profile approach to this revival, though it remains to be seen how the series will balance its classic roots with the pacing expectations of current seasonal television.
