Kaiju No. 8 is expanding its universe with a new short series titled Narumi's Week at Work (Narumi no Heijitsu). The four-episode project, which focuses on the Defense Force’s First Division Captain Gen Narumi, is set to debut on September 5. New episodes will roll out weekly on Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. JST via the TOHO animation YouTube channel, with Crunchyroll confirmed to stream the series as it airs.

The narrative, crafted by Kaiju No. 8: Relax author Kizuku Watanabe, explores the lighter, albeit chaotic, side of Japan’s strongest anti-kaiju combatant. Known for his elite skills on the battlefield, Narumi is equally infamous for his avoidance of administrative office work and his obsession with online gaming. The shorts promise a humorous look at the unexpected "counterattacks" he faces during his downtime.

Production I.G returns to animate the project, maintaining consistency with the main series. Director Shigeyuki Miya is back at the helm, joined by character designer and chief animation director Tetsuya Nishio, and composer Yūta Bandō. Kōki Uchiyama will once again voice the eccentric captain, anchoring the production with his familiar performance.

This release follows a busy period for the franchise, which saw its second season premiere in July 2025 and the conclusion of the original manga series earlier that same month. Beyond the screen, the franchise continues to branch out with Kaiju No. 8: The Game, which launched on PC and mobile platforms in late 2025. Fans can also look forward to a live "Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa" event scheduled for October 24 at the Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo, further celebrating the series' ongoing momentum.
