The latest television adaptation of The Ghost in the Shell, currently being produced by Science SARU, has expanded its cast. Bandai Namco Filmworks confirmed that voice actor Chikahiro Kobayashi has joined the production, making his debut as the character Lee in the series' eighth episode, which aired this past Tuesday.
To commemorate the release of the eighth episode, the studio also unveiled a special end card illustrated by acclaimed animator and director Shingo Natsume, known for his work on One Punch Man. The series, which marks the directorial debut for Mokochan, continues to unfold its narrative under the creative oversight of writer Toh Enjoe.
This new iteration of the cyberpunk classic premiered on July 7 as part of the "Ka-Anival!!" programming block on Kansai TV and Fuji TV. International viewers have access to the series through Amazon Prime Video, which is streaming the show in over 240 countries and regions. The production remains a high-profile collaborative effort between Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production I.G, the latter of which has been the long-standing home for the franchise since its inception.
While the 2015 Ghost in the Shell film currently holds a 7.43 rating on MyAnimeList, this new TV series aims to modernize the franchise's legacy. The project features a robust musical landscape with an opening theme by King Gnu and an ending theme performed by MILLENNIUM PARADE featuring Saya Gray and Daniel Caesar. The series continues to air weekly, serving as the latest entry in a storied franchise that includes previous installments like Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Alternative Architecture.
