The Fairy Princess Minky Momo franchise is making an unexpected return to the screen. The production committee for Mahล no Princess Minky Momo Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo has unveiled a new promotional video, key visual, and full cast list, confirming that the magical girl icon will return to theaters in Japan on November 13.
This new installment updates the classic premise for a modern audience. The story follows a 12-year-old girl who, upon receiving a smartphone for her birthday, is recruited by three companions from the dream-powered land of Diginarsa. As she assumes the mantle of Minky Momo to save their fading realm, she must contend with a popular new app that encourages users to chase shallow validation rather than genuine dreams. The narrative explores how this digital obsession drains the "dream energy" required to sustain the magical world.
Ashi Production, the studio behind the original series, is spearheading the project under the direction of Ayumu Watanabe, known for his work on Witch Hat Atelier and Space Brothers. The creative team also features character designs by franchise veterans Hiroshi Watanabe and Mari Tominaga, with music composed by Tomoki Hasegawa, who previously scored the 1994 OVA Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories.
The cast features Kurumi Haruki in the title role, with Fukushi Ochiai as Dettabook, Natsumi Fujiwara as Chamocha, and Rie Kugimiya as Pipirupi. This release serves as the first new content for the series in over three decades, building on the renewed visibility provided by the arrival of the 1982 original series on Crunchyroll in early 2024.
