Mahō no Princess Minky Momo Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo has expanded its voice cast, announcing that Tomohito Takatsuka and Yōko Hikasa will join the production. The pair are set to portray Rubato and Peter, characters described as central to the conflict within this fresh entry in the classic magical girl franchise.

The narrative shifts to a modern setting where 12-year-old Momo discovers a smartphone that triggers her transformation. Her mission involves saving the realm of Diginarsa, which is fading as humanity loses its capacity for genuine hope. The story offers a critique of contemporary digital culture, as Momo attempts to harvest dream energy while navigating a mysterious app that promotes superficial validation over sincere ambition. Kurumi Haruki leads the cast as the titular heroine, joined by Fukushi Ochiai, Natsumi Fujiwara, and Rie Kugimiya.

Helming the project is director Ayumu Watanabe, whose portfolio includes Witch Hat Atelier and Space Brothers, with animation production handled by Ashi Production. The creative team also reunites series veterans, including composer Tomoki Hasegawa, who previously worked on Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories. Script duties are managed by Deko Akao, known for Arakawa Under the Bridge.

This release represents the first new animation for the franchise in 32 years, following the 1994 OVA. While the original 1982-1983 television series—a fundamental title for the mahou shoujo genre—has been accessible to international viewers via Crunchyroll since 2024, this project brings the series back to the big screen. The OVA will debut in Japanese theaters on November 13.
