Netflix has announced that Golden Kamuy -The Abashiri Prison Raid-, the second live-action adaptation of Satoru Noda's popular manga, will begin streaming on the platform starting July 13. A trailer featuring English subtitles was released to accompany the announcement.
The film, which premiered in Japan on March 13, saw a successful opening weekend, ranking third at the box office and grossing over 368 million yen (approximately US$2.30 million) in its first three days. Kento Yamazaki reprises his role as the immortal soldier Saichi Sugimoto, with Anna Yamada returning as the Ainu girl Asirpa. The cast also includes YΕ« Inaba, SΕkΕ Wada, and Tetta Sugimoto in new roles.
Directed by Kenji Katagiri and written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, the film continues the story from the first live-action movie, which debuted in January 2024 and also topped the Japanese box office. The first film began streaming on Netflix in May 2024. A subsequent live-action series, also based on the manga, premiered in October 2024 and became available on Netflix in February 2025.
Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy manga, which concluded in April 2022, has also inspired four anime seasons, with the latest season's final arc premiering in January. The franchise has garnered a significant following, with the manga itself holding strong ratings across anime platforms.
