The heartwarming and complex world of Mii-chan and Miss Yamada is set to make the leap to animation. Flag Pictures has confirmed that an anime adaptation of Nene Azuki’s manga is currently in development and is slated for a 2027 debut. To mark the announcement, Azuki shared a special illustration celebrating the project.
Serialized on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket service since September 2024, the story follows Yamada, a university student balancing a rigorous academic life with a part-time job as a hostess in a Shinjuku nightclub. While she prefers to keep a low profile and avoid interpersonal drama, her routine is upended by the arrival of Mii-chan, a clumsy and illiterate colleague whose relentless optimism and energy force Yamada out of her shell.
Fans looking to catch up on the source material before the 2027 premiere can look to Seven Seas, which is set to begin its English-language publication of the series on December 8. The manga itself is approaching its conclusion, with the seventh and final volume expected to hit shelves in late summer.
