TV Tokyo has announced a live-action adaptation of Nagisa Furuya's boys-love manga, The Summer of You. The series is slated to begin streaming in advance exclusively on U-NEXT in Japan starting June 24, with its broadcast premiere scheduled for July 1 on TV Tokyo's "Drama NEXT" programming block.

A making-of video has been released, offering a glimpse behind the scenes and teasing the upcoming reveal of the main cast. Further details regarding the cast are expected soon. The production committee also shared an illustration by Furuya to commemorate the adaptation.

The Summer of You follows high school students Chiharu Saeki and Wataru Toda, whose shared passion for movies leads to a deepening friendship. The story explores Chiharu's confession of love to Wataru and their subsequent summer spent visiting film pilgrimage sites, as Wataru grapples with his own potentially mutual feelings. Kodansha USA Publishing handles the English release of the manga.

Serialized in Ichijinsha's gateau magazine between 2017 and 2019, the manga has seen multiple compiled volumes released by Ichijinsha, with additional limited editions appearing as late as July 2025. Manga Planet also added the series to its catalog in 2023. Source: Anime News Network
