The comedic reimagining of the Cinderella archetype, My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked, is expanding its cast. NBC Universal announced that Yō Taichi will join the production as Riru Kazan, a classmate to the series' protagonist, Miya. The character is scheduled to make her first appearance in the show's fifth episode, which airs this Wednesday.
Directed by Keisuke Inoue at studio NEWON, the series has been praised for its subversion of classic fairy tale tropes, focusing on a protagonist who expects a life of hardship only to find her new family surprisingly kind. The production features series composition by Nanami Hoshino and character designs by Mutsumi Sasaki, who also serves as chief animation director. The show's musical identity is defined by Lia’s opening theme, "Amayadori no Shōkei," and the ending theme, "Claire," performed by AVAM.
Currently airing on several Japanese networks including TV Kanagawa and Tokyo MX, the series is available to international viewers through REMOW's "It's Anime" YouTube channel. The anime adapts the ongoing manga series by Otsuji, which has been serialized on Ichijinsha's Comic POOL since 2020 and continues to be published in English by Seven Seas.
