NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan revealed at its Anime Expo panel that Kana Yoshimura's Murciélago manga is slated for an anime adaptation in 2027. The series will be available exclusively on HIDIVE in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.
The story follows Kuroko Koumori, a former death-row inmate serving as a state-sanctioned executioner, partnered with her skilled watchdog Hinako Tozakura. Together, they confront societal darkness and heinous crimes in this dark buddy-action series.
Helming the adaptation is director Matsuo Asami, known for his work on I'm the Villainess, but I'm Being Doted on by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom and Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table. Satelight and Staple Entertainment are producing the anime. Takashi Naoya is serving as chief director and series composer, with character designs by Sei Tateishi and music by Masanori Akita and Yuichi Tsuchiya.
Murciélago has been serialized in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine since 2013, with its 28th compiled volume released in January 2024. Yen Press publishes the manga in English, having released the 26th volume in February 2024. A spinoff manga, Murciélago Byproduct Araña, focusing on Reiko Kuchiba, ran from 2018 to 2020.
