Marvelous has confirmed that Muramasa: Revenant Blades, an enhanced edition of the cult-classic action RPG, will launch on February 4. The release spans a wide range of hardware, including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, and, notably, PC via Steam. This release serves as the first time a title from developer Vanillaware has been brought to the PC platform.
A 10-minute gameplay trailer released alongside the announcement showcases the title's signature side-scrolling combat rendered in updated 4K visuals. The package is comprehensive, bundling the original protagonists, Momohime and Kisuke, with the four additional characters previously featured in the Genroku Legends DLC for the PlayStation Vita version. Players will have the freedom to tackle these six distinct storylines in any order they choose.
Beyond the visual upgrades, the new edition introduces fresh English voice acting and updated localization efforts. The narrative remains centered on the legendary, cursed blades of Senji Muramasa, which drive the game's conflict as various factions and supernatural entities battle for control over the blood-thirsty weapons.
With the inclusion of the Switch 2 in the launch lineup, it remains to be seen how the title's hand-drawn aesthetic scales across such a diverse array of hardware. Given the long gap since the original 2009 Wii debut and the 2013 Vita port, this release consolidates the complete experience for a new generation of players.
