During the latest Nintendo Direct, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Wilds will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4. The reveal trailer showcased the game running on the new hardware and confirmed that the port will support local wireless play between Switch 2 systems, a feature that aligns with the franchise's long-standing history of portable multiplayer.

Players picking up the Switch 2 version will have immediate access to all previously released content, including the four major title updates that rolled out throughout 2025. These updates brought significant additions to the base game, such as the Final Fantasy XIV Online collaboration and the final major content drop, which introduced the Elder Dragon Gogmazios, the "Festival of Accord: Lumenhymn" event, and armor transcendence mechanics.

Looking further ahead, Capcom confirmed that the upcoming major expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, is slated for a 2027 release on the platform. The expansion introduces the "Boost Driver" mechanic, which allows players to trigger temporary enhancements to their combos, guards, and general combat actions.

While the title has already seen significant success on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PCβ€”reaching 10 million units sold by March 2025β€”the move to Nintendo's new hardware brings the latest entry in the series to a dedicated handheld-hybrid audience. With the full suite of post-launch content included at launch, the Switch 2 version provides a comprehensive experience for those who have yet to join the hunt.
