Twin Engine has announced that a new anime project for the Mononoke series is currently in production. The announcement comes as the franchise's trilogy of films continues its theatrical run.

Stepping into the role of the Medicine Seller for this new project is actor Hirofumi Araki, who previously portrayed the character in the recent stage play adaptation. Araki will voice a new iteration of the Medicine Seller named Ken no Tsurugi. Original character designer Kitsuneko Nagata is also returning to contribute to the new anime.

The original Mononoke series, produced by Toei Animation, first aired in 2007 as a 12-episode spin-off of the 2006 anthology Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror. The series gained a dedicated following and has since seen a trilogy of films, with the final installment, Mononoke Movie 3: Hebigami, opening in Japanese theaters on May 29th. The previous films, Mononoke Movie 1: Karakasa and Mononoke Movie 2: Dai ni Shou - Hinezumi, premiered in July 2024 and March 2025 respectively.
