The Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express franchise is set to expand with a newly announced short titled "Milky☆Byway Spring Special: Terror on Chelovin's Day." While the project's specific release window and distribution details are pending, the announcement confirms that the slapstick sci-fi series will continue its run following the success of its recent theatrical ventures.
This new short follows the performance of the re-edited film Ginga Tokkyū Milky☆Subway Kakueki Teisha Gekijō Iki, which earned over 151 million yen during its three-day opening in February. The film, which recently debuted on Netflix, serves as a comprehensive look at the 12-episode series that aired in summer 2025. The show, which holds a 7.94 rating on MyAnimeList, was produced by Shin-Ei Animation and adapted from the original manga.
Creator Yōhei Kameyama remains the driving force behind the property, having handled the writing, directing, and animation duties for the series and its subsequent film versions. The franchise has seen a rapid evolution since Kameyama first debuted the Milky☆Highway short in 2022 as a graduation project, which has since amassed over 6.75 million views. Fans of the chaotic, zero-strategy antics of Chiharu and Makina can expect the upcoming special to maintain the high-momentum energy that has defined the series since its inception.
