Mangaka Minari Endo has surprised readers by announcing a direct continuation of her cult-classic series, Maria Holic. Titled Maria Holic: Sono Ato no 12-kagetsu no Ohanashi (Maria Holic: A Story Set 12 Months After), the new project is set to debut in the pages of Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine on August 27.
As the title suggests, the narrative picks up exactly one year after the conclusion of the original manga. The announcement marks the first major return to the franchise since the main series wrapped in November 2014. The original run, which began in the magazine's inaugural 2006 issue, cemented its place in the comedy-romance genre, eventually spawning two television anime adaptations in 2009 and 2011.
While the series has been dormant for over a decade, its influence remains significant, with One Peace Books currently handling a rerelease of the original volumes for English-speaking readers. The franchise, known for its eccentric characters and sharp humor, previously saw its anime adaptations licensed by Sentai Filmworks. This revival serves as a rare look back at one of the mid-2000s most recognizable titles, offering fans a glimpse into the lives of the characters twelve months removed from their last appearance.
